What is Intralogistics?
Intralogistics is the optimisation, integration, automation and management of the logistical flow of data and material goods held in a fulfilment and distribution centre (DC). This is the effective management of all materials within the supply chain. Put simply, Intralogistics is the process of how a product gets from A to B within a warehouse using the most efficient methods.
The function of intralogistics is monitored carefully by refined database and software systems to ensure the comprehensive analysis of existing processes used by a company which then enables the user to ensure their performance is achieving the most efficient automation method.
Who uses Intralogistics?
Intralogistics is more commonly utilised by third party logistics (3PL) providers to assist with the practicality of their in-house systems to ensure the highest optimisation for their clients’ supply chain activities. Other Intralogistics users include industrial enterprises, wholesalers, retailers, and government institutions.
What equipment is used in Intralogistics?
Intralogistics consists of equipment and machinery such as lifting, crane and forklift trucks. Aside from physical machinery items, computer software is also developed and utilised especially for a company.

Intralogistics is becoming a fast-growing sector and 2015 even sees the introduction of an awards ceremony to show recognition to the market leaders within this sector. Set to take place at the Intralogistex exhibition in March at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry, the IntraLogistics awards will be judged by a carefully selected group of industry specialists. They will be looking for outstanding products and services. The categories will include; Warehouse Automation, Picking and sortation, Storage and Warehouse infrastructure & services. Full details can be found on the IntraLogistex website although entries for the awards have now closed. We wonder if any of the Whichwarehouse valued 3PL members will be nominated or, indeed, win. Good luck to all!
