How to make your warehouse storage more environmentally friendly

Improving the greenness of your warehouse

There are a number of reasons as to why you may wish to ‘go green’green warhousing with your warehouse. For example; you maywish to give a good impression to your customers. Other companies may find that going green is absolutely perfect for reducing the energy costs of a company. You need to consider that going green will be expensive initially. If you do things right, however, you will be surprised at how much money you will be able to save in the long run. On this page, I am going to take a little peek at a few ways in which you can increase the greenness of your warehouse.  Please take a look at this fantastic infographic by Storage Solutions which lists more ways to make your warehouse green.

Warehouse equipment

  • Depending on how you operate your warehouse storage, you may be utilising a variety of different pieces of equipment. When this equipment breaks down, you should take a look to see whether there is a greener alternative on the market. If you are aiming for equipment that runs on petrol, you should be on the lookout for equipment that gives a decent amount of mileage. If you purchase greener electric equipment, search for items which have a low wattage but still boast a fairly decent amount of power. Always buy the best equipment that your company can afford. Low maintenance is also fairly green!

Heating and Cooling systems for your warehouse storage facility

  • Does your warehouse use a HVAC system? If so, you may wish to call in a HVAC specialist. In fact, you should call in one even if your warehouse services do not currently have a HVAC system currently installed. The specialist will inspect the heating and cooling systems of your warehouse storage. Their inspection will allow them to suggest HVAC system changes which will bring down the cost of your energy usage. This, in many cases, will mean making substantial improvements to the HVAC system you already have installed. In some cases, they may suggest that you look into the idea of installing new heating and cooling components in your warehouse. The overall aim of this process will be to reduce energy consumption. This will have two effects; the first being a reduction in costs and the second ensuring that your warehouse is that much greener.

Other energy efficient methods to consider in your warehousing facility

  • You may even wish to look into a few of the more basic warehouse services that you are working with. For example, you may wish to take a little look at the amount of paperwork that your company produces. There are plenty of ‘paperless solutions’ out there that you can use nowadays.
  • Energy saving bulbs are also brilliant. Replacing light fixtures which may use a couple of bulbs with a light fixture that uses just one bulb. It is a minor change, but if the amount of warehouse storage you have is fairly substantial, replacing a good few of those bulbs will see a drastic decrease in overall costs.
  • If you have a lot of money to burn and you truly want to ensure that your warehouse is as ‘green’ as possible, you should look into installing solar panels. Yes, it is going to be expensive, but, with the right panels installed, you may be able to eliminate your electricity bills.
